Energy Security and Sustainability

Description
A nation's long-term energy security depends on five objectives:

1. Increasing energy efficiency and conservation
2. Developing alternatives to fossil fuels
3. Assuring a petroleum reserve large enough to prevent a fuel shortage crisis
4. Advancing technologies with low emissions of greenhouse gases and
5. Assuring that future energy development does not harm the environment. National strategies have considered energy taxes, shifting subsidies, emission standards, and fuel rationing.
