Web statistics on all pages +6
Edit this Page
Problem:
No way to see how much content is being viewed / consumed - which is a powerful way to encourage greater contribution to WE.
Suggestion:
- Webstats on each page - through Google analytics - top line should be simple # of hits but would be great to be able to click through to get who from where, which domains etc
- Show number of downloads of files - love to see how much content is being actively dowloaded.
- Most viewed roll call on homepage anda tile to add to groups.
More ideas?

Or perhaps wiser can share a filtered view from within google analytics for those with a vested interest in taking wiser above ground???

I think that automating the site stats is a good idea.
I'm mostly concerned with tracking our efforts to promote wiser --> so that I can learn from what I'm doing and maximize the effectiveness of my labor (of love)... At this point it is ok for this information to be masked, I think. thnx |

I love this idea. It would great to see how our efforts of promoting W.E. are being taken by the public. How many people in our comunity use W.E. as reoccuring visitors? How many new visitors after we send out a msg about WE.
This will give us a better understanding as to what works & what doesn't with our promotion efforts and how we might alter our promotions. |

@Ammen: Good addition. Presume that would be for the more technical user. Believe we still we need visible numbers on the pages themselves since not everyone is going to click through to Google Analytics.

I see that wiser is now using 'google analytics' themselves... Atleast I think that's what the status bar is telling me when I load pages?!?
Is there a plan to roll this out for users? I for one (and representing several groups) would love this function! I think it could be as simple as allowing an administrator to create a google analytics account, create a wiserearth profile, and then past that script in the body of the < ______/group/______ > html... so for example, it would be included where the following url is bold: http://www.wiserearth.org/article/1b2fb7f06089819ba69ce249f03863c9/group/pscc Does that make sense, or is it possible? Thanks! In community, Ammen |

Downloads per file would be good tool.

Something simple like - "Page Views: 1,234"
Then we can use this data to drive "Most viewed" roll call on WE homepage and perhaps some admin selected tile for Groups (a la highest ranked and most recent content) |

This is something I'll have to check in with Google Analytics about. We haven't offered web counters in the past because all the search crawlers skew the hits. If we can pull this metric through Google Analytics, we definitely will.

Not just for groups - should be for all content and even people. This kind of data can help raise awareness of important content on the site (i.e. based on it we should be able to search / browse 'most visited') but also it engages users - my content / group has been visited again... and incentivizes them to add / manage content - because people are watching!

Maybe check in more with what Facebook pages is doing. They provide "Insights" or stats, if you are an administrator. I've been using FB pages like crazy for organizational purposes (sorry). I guess I'm not convinced that I'm getting much traffic with WE! But I'm being honest here. Seeing the stats really motivates me to check my Facebook page(s) every few days. The stats also tell you a lot about ways to improve the existing group function and how to drive traffic to it.

I really think WE has the potential to learn from what Facebook has done with Pages. Before you know it, organizations might be scrambling to create groups for themselves...because their "competitors" or if we're being nice.. "co-collaborators" are also on WE.
