We are transitioning from this page to using our forums to host suggestion topics - please go there to post comments or suggestions:

Wedjr - can you clarify which drop down menu you are referring to? Is it when you edit an organization's details? Or for personal profile? It will help me narrow down who I should forward this suggestion to for consideration. Thanks.

Hi Michaeldimock - that's an excellent point, and one that the staff here is more than happy to consider. We actually have a forum set up where we encourage the community to put up new Areas of Focus categories to consider adding, or revising/deleting current ones. Please go to http://www.wiserearth.org/forum/view/dcfd137839534b43807badc51923ab81 and start a slow food topic to bring it to the attention of our content team.

Hi Rachel - we have noticed that, and the best technical way that I can describe is that our search engine doesn't return "partial search" results. It's actually a priority project at the moment, so we will definitely be working to resolve this limitation.

Education for Sustainable Development is a worldwide endeavor that is not represented in your drop-down menu of organizational activities. We are in year two of the UN's Decade of education for Sustainable Development. It entails both formal and informal educational efforts. Please remedy.

I continue to enjoy exploring the site and honing our entries. I am wondering if you could add slow food as an area of focus. in think there are thousand of folks around the world that use that lens in the food system work. The slow food movement is extensive and the network visualization tool would be enhanced if it were added i think. lots of people would link through the slow food lens. just a thought. ciao!

Doug Grinbergs, thanks for the tip about the bug reporting to webkit.
as for the usefulness of this page, we have somewhat of a manual set up right now. there are a couple people who translate issues from users into tickets for the tech team. this allows a non-tech user to report issues with the site. currently the tickets are viewable on the "general tech report" wikipage. -adam |

Nasher, making the home page a simpler place would be nice. i agree. I will do my best to push this idea with those who are currently developing the home page content and function.

EVENTS CALENDAR Capabilities... I want to suggest incorporating a more capable database system for events. I think this discussion might best take place off-line, via email (and perhaps voice) with someone who works on WiserEarth's software platform. Please let me know, via email, who I can chat with about this concept. Thank you.

I think that a more basic main page might benefit everyone. Why not have Paul write a simple message to new users welcoming them to WiserEarth?? There can be a place for existing users to sign in, and links encouraging new users to learn more or join. This way, an existing user's starting point is their profile - a nice comfortable place that they can make their own - and will immediately start to access comments, messages, and watchlist alerts.
I'm a big fan of the Today's Portal, Org, and Resource, but I find that I'm getting lost in the massive WiserEarth jungle before I even go to my cave! I think that this idea would encourage the social networking aspects of the site. |

If the search is not exact, it will not show any results. For instance, when I search for "Bioneer", nothing shows. It's not until I add the "s" on "Bioneers" that the organization is found...

I just wanted to express my appreciation and joy at being able to use the WYSIWYG editor. Well done!!!

It would be great if you could add "Law/Legal" or something of that nature under the organizational activities drop-down list (to mirror the fact that individuals can register themselves as lawyers). Also, I don't know if this is too US-centric, but our organization is state-based, so the choice of listing ourselves either as community- or region-based is a little fuzzy and it would be lovely to have the third option. Thanks!

This mechanism is OK for leaving basic comments, but terrible for bug reports - for which you need subjects, ticket numbers, and more - or discussion - which requires some sort of threading mechanism, subjects, quoting, etc.
(Of course, with subjects and quoting, people need to use them thoughtfully; alas, based on incoming emails and other message board postings on various sites, it seems like this may be a lost cause.) |

Apple's Safari 3 browser is in public beta for Mac OS, there's now a Windows version (a million downloads in the first 2 days), and an iPhone version coming on June 29th with the release of the iPhone, so I hope Safari will get better support. At WWDC last week, they stressed how standards-compliant they're trying to be.
As appropriate, please report Apple bugs to the WebKit folks http://webkit.org/quality/reporting.html, use the Report Bugs to Apple menu item and/or, for ADC members, use the (not-so-great) BugReporter. Thanks. |

Hi Fraser,
Thank you for writing about this site! I'm terribly sorry to hear about the registration process difficulties, but I am happy to tell you that we have been redesigning the signup process, and are doing our best to streamline and simplify it down to just a 1-2-3 steps. If any of your users has any issues registering, please feel free to contact me, and I will do my best to solve whatever ails them. In the meantime, I would love to encourage them to post suggestions/issues/difficulties they've encountered with the signup process, so that we can make sure we address then in the re-design. I'll take all your feedback into consideration, but I think our current mockup should address a few of these issues. No ETA when it will be done, but it is a major priority for sure! |

Hi Benjamin, we actually have an General Tech Report page where we post all the latest bugs/features that have been turned into tech tickets. We are currently using TRAC for all our ticketing, and will eventually make it public so that the community can follow all the changes upcoming.
http://www.wiserearth.org/article/82988ad4b89eeb1cf744a051401619ee And don't worry about the flagging! That is something we have noticed and have submitted a tech ticket to fix. Actually, I would greatly appreciate if you continue to use and explore the site, and any time you come across anything, feel free to let us know on either the Suggestions (for new features) or Questions (for bugs, problems). We are always on the lookout for ways to improve the UI of this site, so please feel free to click on anything and everything. |
|
Hey MichaelG, I'll post your comment over on our Questions page, and I'll follow up with you to try to recreate this problem. But I'm not surprised it didn't work in Safari, as Safari doesn't support some javascript functions that we need for the editing panel to work properly.

Hi estarriol, I see what you mean - similar searches for Red Cross or Oxfam reveals a ton of chapters that could be grouped together to keep the listings less cluttered. At the moment, I don't think we are able to change our search results too much to accommodate that sort of filtering, but it is a good suggestion, and I'll move it over to the suggestion box and hope we can get around to discussing it more at a later point in time.

Hi there,
I am doing some research on the effectiveness of social networking. I am wondering if there is someone that is very involved in monitoring the social networking aspect of this great community. If I would be able to get in touch with someone who would be willing to discuss this with me that would be fantastic.
Thanks
