What are WiserEarth Groups?

Edit this Page

Overview

Tn_329973352_6c787602a6_sWiserEarth groups offer the ability for two or more people who share a common affinity within the sustainability community to come together. Each group is a unique space where members can set up discussions, post and share resources, collaborate on projects and engage in ongoing conversations. Existing networks can link to groups on WiserEarth from their websites, or use a WiserEarth group to replace the need for a website altogether.

WiserEarth groups aim to:

  • help connect people and organizations throughout the community
  • build relationships across boundaries of geography or discipline
  • provide a cost-free platform for the sharing of knowledge and resources
  • assist in highlighting issues being addressed by members or member organizations
  • enable new relationships to be formed with people around the world that support a group's cause
  • provide a shared social space where problem solving and the development of ideas can take place
  • create a community memory for group deliberation and brainstorming

Specifically, members of groups can:

  • work together on projects
  • post news alerts and articles
  • share resources such as news articles, research papers, data or links to useful websites
  • create and participate in discussion forums
  • attract new members and engage with existing members
  • find volunteers or employees or identify employment opportunities
  • help promote the causes they support

Groups exist in many different forms. Some may represent communities of interest (e.g. a global community of women environmentalists) or a group of people working on similar issues (e.g. a coalition of local organic farmers). You can browse through the groups on WiserEarth to see examples of the many communities of interest that are represented. Anyone who is registered on WiserEarth can create a new group.
