On a Mac, <Control> is used for the contextual menu. Use <Option>?

Style guide to help developers with their writing? could mention things like:
don't use "click here"
"log in" vs. "login"
"press" vs. "click"

Link to some relevant online style guide?
Sm_avatar
Incorrect usage: "press" vs. "click"

From http://www.wiserearth.org/organization/new_pre/
press 'Search/Add'

From Apple Style Guide: "You click an onscreen button; you press a mechanical button."

Add to WiserEarth style guide? (suggested elsewhere)

Area of Focus: Light and Noise Pollution

Noise pollution and light pollution are *completely* different issues, and should be separate topics. Would you go to an ear doctor for an eye problem? (;-)

Use of "click here"

From http://www.wiserearth.org/user/new/
For more details on protecting your information, click here

Don't use "click here"; it's bad style, it's unprofessional, and it sets a bad example

Duplicate entries for Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, one from a year ago, and another from a day ago:

http://www.wiserearth.org/organization/view/832b943f716252eb96a7c181e6138b09/
http://www.wiserearth.org/organization/view/5808af766ea243e5e5a38575672dc290/

Seems like there may be a need to minimise duplicate entries
Means of merging information from multiple records?

Time zone mechanism seems busted: selected Mountain Time (MST), but system doesn't seem to know that it's MDT (-0600, not -0700) - displayed "local time" is off by an hour.

Registration oops for required fields left blank: either red boxes that prevent data entry or Save button that doesn't work if browser [Back] feature used. (:-( Bad user experience! Please fix ASAP! Don't discourage other potential users with time-wasting registration goofiness. (Saw a comment on the feedback page; would have added a vote if it was as easy as in Bugzilla.)

"Join my Network on Wiser Earth" - I'd like to be able to use wiser earth - from within the system and within my profile page - to invite friends to join wiser earth by joining my network. A good invite html page sent to them with a simple Join Kristy's Network button would be the 'visualize network' page so that they see who I'm already linked to... and I'd like an alert sent to me when they join...

We need a focus group on Women - Breastfeeding

Hi Kristy-
We are in the process of creating this capacity. (If you open the 'Coming Soon' link under the 'What's New' section on the righthand column of the homepage, you'll see the latest WiserEarth upcoming features.)

Until this is a more developed function, we have been creating community hubs by starting a wiki page for each local network. You can build a local network of Ghana-based women's organizations by creating a wikipage and linking each organization to this page to create a network for SWOPA. I'd love to help you set this up, if you're interested.

I selected the NGO that I wanted to donate to and clicked the Donate Now button within their profile.... however, I am brought to a list page asking me,

Would you like to donate money to one or more of the organizations listed on WiserEarth?

This may frustrate donors because they just went through the process of selecting the NGO they want to support and they simply want to donate to the one they found. So - I think it would be better to have the Donate Now button link directly to the NGO’s own donation page on their own site .... this is a win-win for the following reason ...

When you send the announcement/invite to the existing organizations already included in WiserEarth, it would be a win-win to request the link to their own donation page so that when you click Donate Now on WiserEarth in their profile, it links directly to their own donation page on their site. If this request is included in the announcement, I think the orgs will be very eager to view and update their WiserEarth page (be more active members). Any free sites pointing back to their donation page is a huge plus to them and the donors wanting to find and donate won't get lost.

Hi - another suggestion that is probably already on your list of future features, but I'll type it up here just in case:

The ability to save a search result list as a group so that I can:

1. email a group using one email from me to them
2. start a blog for the group (like yahoo) .. a network w/in a network - like you can on Yahoo (yahoo groups)
3. receive alerts about recent activity by and events related to the group
4. organize group events through WiserEarth

Being able to create a smaller network within the WiserEarth network would enable local groups to get to know of the existence of the others in their region or category, communicate in a more specific way with their peer group, and create network events so they can all gather face to face and collaborate on similar projects.

Example
I know of a very small village based org (SWOPA) that is in a really remote area of Ghana. I've asked other orgs in Ghana if they've heard of SWOPA and it's usually a 'no' but once they hear about what SWOPA does, they are excited to collaborate. So I've added SWOPA to WiserEarth and then searched for similar woman-focused NGO's in Ghana that could collaborate with SWOPA. There are many. I'd like to save that list as a group, create a blog for the group and invite them to it with one email.... and then I can host a WiserEarth group event in Ghana and invite them to participate and meet each other.

Hi - when I add an organization, I have to separately go into my profile and add them to my network ... (unless I missed a link or button on the page)? Can this be automatic so that when I hit submit (for submitting the org), I'm asked if I'd like them to be added to my network on the spot?
Sm_avatar
I saw this on another site and thought it was cool because it communicated that members were active on the site (and made me want to be counted too). Something similar could be included in the stats area of Wiser Earth ...

"Who’s Online" count displayed... see sample below - scroll down on right of page

A more esoteric suggestion...

Utilize the W and E of Wiser Earth to make "WE" as a part of your messages, branding, etc... since it suggests community.

example:
WiserEarth ....”WE” are with you, for you and about you, the individuals and organizations making a positive impact in the world.

For the emails that are sent automatically along with a private message, can we change the return address to the user's email instead of "no-reply@wiserearth.org"? It's a bit tricky, since the email shows the sender's name, so I assumed the reply-to would be the sender's email. It wasn't until the email bounced back a day later that I realized it hadn't gone through. This could cause potential problems, esp when people are depending on the timeliness of a reply.

Hi Caitlin,
So I checked out your problem, and added it to the suggestion box. I ran into the same problem, but then found out later that the box to enter the text is just shifted down beneath the text that you couldn't edit. But since they aren't aligned it looks like the field is gone. The tech team is aware of this and is already in the process of fixing it.
You put your feedback in the right place. You could also have posted it as a question, and it still would have been found by the community. FYI, you can also find people to help you by clicking the "help" link on the left navigation bar. Thanks for joining the community.
peace,

When signing up for your program this morning, I missed putting in my city. When it went back that field was highlighted in red, yet could not be manipulated at all. Had to cancel and start over. Though you should know this, so others miss signing up because they just went through a 400 point list of interesting categories to be involved with, then are facing re-entering all of this information.

Also a specific buttom for feedback on the website as you are just opening to new users broadly- vs. this general suggestion box - which was the closest I could find to link to your website team
