About [Edit]
The Tierra Miguel Foundation is a 501[c][3] not-for-profit organization with the purpose of supporting the Earth and its people, by demonstrating and developing sustainable and chemical-free agriculture. We offer you our beautiful and delicious CCOF [California Certified Organic Farmers]-certified organic fruits, vegetables and herbs picked fresh and delivered to you weekly. We offer educational programs for all ages in farming and gardening. We are using vital and important biodynamic principles, practicing soil enhancement, composting and healthy agriculture. We`re working with universities and seeking grants and donations to carry on the Foundation`s far-reaching work. If your life`s goals are similar, please ask about our Sponsoring Angels Program .
TMF ecological activities seek to improve the quality of the soil by using compost enriched with herbal preparations. Diverse crops are planted as a means of controlling pests and as alternatives to soil-depleting pesticides. A variety of natural pest management techniques are used as alternatives to pesticides. Compost is produced using the farm`s waste vegetation and safe animal waste. It is enriched with herbal preparations rather than employing synthetic fertilizers. The above noted practices have the direct ecological benefit of preserving and enriching the soil, as well as serving the educational, scientific and research objectives of TMF.
In order to fulfill its mission of education and demonstration of sustainable agricultural practices, Tierra Miguel Foundation [TMF] leases 85 acres of certified organic farmland in Pauma Valley, California. The acreage was leased from the landowner, William Potter, as of September 2000.
The Foundation is actively involved in creating a demonstration farm where young and established farmers and the community can deepen their relationships to the earth. Our first step was to create a demonstration farm by transforming the existing monocrop of strawberries, which had already been planted when the Foundation began leasing the farm in September of 2000, into row crops suitable to begin a Community Supported Agriculture [CSA] program.
