September 24, 2007

The day of International Day of Peace has been marked in Nepal by various organizations. Similarly, Youth Society for Peace (YSP) Nepal has conducted a three days programme on the occasions of International Day of Peace as peace has been everyone’s want.

This programme has been tremendously important for Nepalese youth to realize peace through their work and to form a culture of peace. As a part of this programme the first day (September 20) Peace Poetry Competition was held where students more than 15 schools who has prior formed Peace Club recited their poem on the various dimensions of peace.

On the second day (September 21) Peace Prayer was done at Shanti Sewa Ashram (SSA), Koteshwor, Kathmandu. There were the representations from more than 21 socio-religio-cultural organizations. Religious preachers lighted the peace lamp to spread the message of interfaith reconciliation. Everyone who joined the Peace Prayer heartily prayed for the unconditional peace which can be achieved only through peace.

YSP Nepal on the third day (September 22) organized Youth Conference where more than 115 youth participated from various schools, colleges and various youth organizations of the Kathmandu valley. Mrs. Mridu Shrestha, the coordinator of YSP welcomed participants highlighting the theme of the day “Peace – Our Dream; Our Destination.” The conference was lively and lovely when the participants presented their vow at least to enlighten peace within oneself rather than searching it out in the materialistic world. The participants also enjoyed yoga, meditation, friendship and intellectual games. Discussion with the facilitators of the SSA members and other intellectuals and volunteers from Asam, Australia, USA and England also boosted the programme.

Various peace leaders such as Dr. Chintamani Yogi, founder of Hindu Vidyapeeth-Nepal Schools, Mrs. Indira Manandhar Chairperson of Dharma Tatha Shanti Pratisthan quenched the questions raised by youth and guided them giving some simple tools to have a qualitative life in mechanical era. Similarly, youth interfaith activist Mr. Raju Kandel encouraged youth not to look at the things but to look through the things and Nepali World Cyclist for Peace Mr. Puskar Shah also shared his joys and sorrows. Mr. Kiran Thapa, a renowned social worker thanked YSP and wished all the participants for their persistence to be the peace messenger. In a nutshell, everyone who participated the programme egged on Peace is the light of the heart that needs to be lighted before searching it out.
