About

I am a happy and far too busy citizen of planet earth.

About Me
I am owner and director of Alto, a visual communication design company with a focus on sustainability and cultural
transformation. My objective is to work at the ‘bleeding edge’ of voluntary behavior change, especially as it relates
to sustainability and climate change; where possible utilizing emergent forms of web-based interaction that are
community and participation centric to create engaging tools that empower users to create meaningful change.
Last year, Alto won the regional finals and received special commendation for Innovation in
Sustainability at the National Awards for Sustainable Business for a concept called Good Friday - Is a day allocated
in the working week for employees to work on projects and create things with no monetary value but mean
something to us.

Sustainability Trust
I am a Trustee of the Sustainability Trust. Our Trust embraces the Voluntary Behaviour Change Model – which
enables people to adapt new sustainable behaviours because the solution they choose fits within their life and
improves it in some way. The Trust delivers behaviour change in the community in the areas of waste, transport,
local procurement, soil health and water health, energy efficiency including rolling out insulation projects to
create ‘Healthy Homes’.

Young People
I actively contribute to student mentoring and have developed a lecture series for Massey University’s Design
School and Victoria Universities’ ‘Design Led Futures’ programme on Design and Sustainability. I am passionate
about fostering the capacity of our young people to step up as leaders and have helped establish a young professionals network called Intersect for young people who are passionate about cultural transformation and sustainability. The network  is established to enable sharing of knowledge, problem solving and leadership development.

Celsias
I am on the management team of a web-based project called Celsias, which has been established to connect people and climate change projects with funds. We currently run a blog which is in the top .01% of blogs in the world. Things are heating up (in more ways than one!).

Thinking and Thunking

I am a passionate advocate for a new world order. This new paradigm has a whole new approach. It first asks the question "What is the best we can be?". It inspires us to polish up our utopian ideals which have been shamefully hidden in a box under our bed.

I think the key issues here is not climate change or pollution or water saving. These are product/symptoms of old
linear thinking. (Thunking!). The same thinking that threatens our climate, also creates global poverty and
proliferation of plastic containers that take 500 years to break down. We need to foster the emergence of new
thinking and establish some common ground about where we want to go.

Instead of working blindly for 'sustainability' of this current culture of ours, I am interested in maximising the things in life that we value and make us well and minimising the harmful and unhealthy aspects of living.

Through my life and my work, I seek to develop great transparency, honesty, integrity abundance and  wholeness in the culture around me. These are the aspects of culture worth sustaining. I am open to lifestyle change which may be necessary  to create this world.

My favourite things about the new world that I see emerging around me today:
- A culture of care
- Micro philanthopy and micro-lending
- Dialogue (with a capital 'D')
- Humans beginning to open up to their limitless nature
- the opportunties for connection and meaning that the quest for 'sustainability' creates
- deeply happy people who hold complexity with grace
- Positive Social Change

I also love the ukulele. It is a significant part of creating a happier world.
