About

2008:

I am actively seeking an intentional community or communities: my hope is to leave in Spring 2009 for one of two kinds of adventures:

- traveling for 6-12 months with Adrienne, my daughter (who will be 8) and interning in sustainable communities

AND/OR

-identifying a community for a long term/permanent move

Criteria for us:

  • land-based with emphasis on organic food production
  • other children present
  • work trade opportunity
  • opportunity to minimize car travel
  • focus on compassionate communication

would be nice:

other languages spoken beyond English

2007:

I just finished reading Joanna Macy’s article on The Great Turning: we have the knowledge, skills, and resources, she says, to make the shift from a self-destructing Industrial Growth Society to a life-sustaining civilization. She points to hopeful signs that a profound transformation, and the cognitive revolution and spiritual awakening that must accompany it, are under way.

Since I was quite young I have felt called to serve- and specifically to serve my world community in a way that promotes ecological sanity, sustainability, and social justice.  My path so far has wound it’s way through the “activist boot-camp” that is the PIRGs (Public Interest Research Groups), working in national fundraising leadership on the 2004 election, spreading awareness of ecological design principles, and working locally as part of the “no child left inside” movement to re-connect children with nature.  A seven-year hiatus from organizing and fundraising offered me the rich experience of being a Vice President at a dynamic and growing software company, where I learned that what it takes to be great in business (commitment, stamina, aptitude) are the same principles that make great activists.

Now, as a mother of a seven-year old girl, I find myself ever more focused on my personal commitment to being the change that I wish to see:  to dedicating myself to this vision of a life-sustaining civilization.  I have a passionate longing to work with a team of other committed individuals towards this vision.I believe that the highest purpose of my own idealism, energy, and willingness is to help mobilize these same feelings in (many) others.
