About
I've started a project setting up carpools and other ways people can rely on each other instead of using up resources when traveling to events: everything from festivals like EarthDance to professional conferences like the American Holistic Nursing Association.
Besides the travel aspect, we're sometimes helping people meet neighbors with similar interests - imagine if you could go to a Peace Rally, and if you were thinking of converting to biodiesel, you could match up with a couple neighbors who wanted to make the same change. Instead of listening to speakers, or spending all day on the internet, you quickly make the connections you need and meet in real life.
It's called SpaceShare Green Travel and the project is humming along – we might be able to help 50 events be greener this year. If more people join and help, we could be talking about greening 1000 events in 2007, going way beyond “preaching to the converted.”
This could be a big deal – there's a plan ( www.spaceshare.com/vision) for growing this to eventually make it so you can walk out your door with a cell phone instead of a car, and safely and conveniently get wherevr you need to go and home again. To do for hitchiking what E-Bay did to buying from total strangers.
I need help. If anyone's been hoping to make BIG changes to help protect Mother Earth, this isn't a theoretical project, this is ready to go, and we need you - each person getting involved can make a really big diference. So far, no outside funding, no charismatic leaders, just get to work and make a huge difference. SpaceShare needs more skills and more personality types.
Want to get involved?
A little thing I'd love everyone's help with:
* connect us with festivals that need carpooling. Any time you go to a festival or conference, mention that you'd like to carpool there, and tell them to contact SpaceShare.
There's room & need for more committed contributors:
* Want to come to festivals with me this summer, can you help run a booth during the day and party at night (free tickets for volunteers - sometimes to conferences like Spiritual Activism or Greening Rooftops instead of EarthDance type festivals.)
* blog for SpaceShare,
* partner with me - can you call festivals and conferences and convince them to be green, willing to work for a share of the money we bring in?
*move to Thailand and work for cheap on our writting/research projects (not kidding - someone with good writing skills could go live in Thailand for a year working a 30 hour week for an enviro project. Know anyone creative & organized who threatened to leave the country if Bush got elected?)
