About

Website: WWW.RAINEWALKER.COM
I've been an artist for over 30 years, specializing in community arts projects, and cross disciplinary work that has often involved masks, sculpture, and ritual theatre. I've been involved in eco-femininism and "Gaian" theology, and am perhaps best known for a collection of 30 "Masks of the Goddess" that have been used by women throughout the country to celebrate and explore mythologies of the sacred feminine. Currently I'm working on a collection of sculptures, and a community based art project, called "Hands of the Spiderwoman" that explores interdependency through Native American creatrix stories. I've also supported myself for many years as a craftswoman.
This year (2008) I'm beginning a new venture - to travel to Africa and Asia, do some volunteer work, and develop a fair trade catalog of handcrafts and clothing that will benefit women. I've been inspired by groups such as "Rubia", which help Afghan women to gain economic independence by marketing their traditional embroideries to an American market. I'm also inspired by Marc Gold of the "100 Friends Project" (www.100friends.com) - one man who loves to travel, and has made a very big difference everywhere he goes.
I'm eager to network with people in the arts (or interested in the arts) who are concerned with environmental issues, and would like to network as well with those who can offer me information about developing my Catalog business, and groups that might benefit from what development I might be able to offer.
